![]() ![]() ![]() This book, like all of Terry Pratchett's can be read on several levels at once. Strange places like chair legs, skirting boards and underlay, every day items to us but fantastical or dangerous places to them. I wanted to write down quotes to mull over so I was forever pressing pause! So I have decided that I just have to a) listen again and b) read the book as well because this is one to devour again and again!ĭon't expect The Carpet People to populated with the usual Disc World characters, this is not a Disc World tale but one about Almost microscopic people living in a carpet, who must come together to battle Fray (who is never seen only felt) and an assortment of quite brutal foes. He creates such a huge range of voices and a whole cast of characters exploded into view! This is a fantastic listen but it’s also a difficult one! The book is packed with comedy and little gems of philosophy which you want to savour and digest. And then there’s the incredibly sharp comedy and the deep philosophy.David Tennant could read anything and make it wonderful and in his hands wonderful is made incredible, out of this world. This book exists on so many levels -children will love the sheer adventure, the battles and fun and naughtiness. Then came the carpet.’ This is the story of two munrung brothers setting off on a great adventure as the world of the carpet is under threat from Fray. ‘In the beginning.there was nothing but endless flatness. This is the most impossible story to summarise, not least because the characters have such wild and wonderful names - Glurk, Pismire.and the story is set in a carpet. ![]() The audiobook of The Carpet People seemed the perfect place to start. I have never read Terry Pratchett, imaging his writing to be too weird and strange for my understanding and then an Instagram feature on Pratchett persuaded me that actually this might be writing I would love. ![]()
